Rebulican Jeff Flake tried his best tonight on C-Span to remove several earmarks from the 65 Billion dolloar spending bill. Don’t know much about Flake, but he called out some good ones. Democrats out voted him on all this amendments to remove the earmarks, they all thanked him for his fiscial responsibility, but not for their earmarks.
One such example is a 1 million dolloar grant to Drew University, which is a private university, that has a 268 million dollar endowment. The representative from NJ that apposed this earmark removal argued the point that NJ has the least amount of earmarks in the budget bill, so we should just leave it in anyway. Hard to argue with logic like that.
Overall the US is operating a 11 trillion dollar debt, $36,000 per person in the US.
