Who wants to be a czar?

Republican John Carter in the US House just brought up a very interesting point.  Typically people that the president appoints need to be confirmed by the senate before performing any duties.

Our current president has now appointed 22 czars to oversee their respective areas.  He also brought up that the simple use of czars is slightly f-ed up because it’s typically used to refer to emperor or supreme leader.  How democratic!

The Russian Romanov czars in around 300 years appointed 18 czars, Obama has appointed 22 czars in 146 days.

Here’s a list of a few of our czars
urban
info tech
faith based
health reform
tarp
stimulus accountability
non proliferation
terrorism
regulatory
drug
guantanamo closure
mid-east peace
Persian gulf southwest asia
sudan
climate
car
Sudan
economic
executive pay
cyber security - not filled yet, but we’ll get one

Not sure what the economic czar does vs the secretary of treasury and the secretary of commerce, or what the Sudan czar does vs the ambassador to Sudan does.

Ohh well, I guess we needed a few more of Obama’s friends needed a job.
